I freely admit that you will need a little imagination for this piece of reading material. Today I will be taking you on a culinary journey of the mind. We will pretend that you are already here with me. So: take a deep breath in and out, lean back and relax, and let your imagination run free.
07:15 a.m., breakfast room
Good morning, wonderful human children! A quick wash is enough, breakfast is calling! The scent of fresh bread from the Senales baker and freshly brewed Alpine coffee fills the stairwell. So, now please taste a piece of Mamenbert. This is a white mould cheese from the Infanglhof here in the Senales Valley. Well, what do you think? What about something sweet now? Here you go: freshly baked croissants with Val Martello strawberry jam and a homemade Bircher muesli with handpicked seasonal fruits. And a cappuccino made from fresh local mountain farm milk. Or – and this is a small sensation – with almond milk made in South Tyrol. By the way: when the sun is already strong enough, you can enjoy your start to the day outside on the terrace. Nice, isn't it?
08:45 a.m. , sun terrace
Another glass of Oberraindlhof Prosecco to get your circulation going? Or would you prefer a glass of apple juice from the Nischlhof in Katharinaberg? And then: apply sunscreen to your nose, put on your sunglasses and off you go into the mountains! Your rented backpack is just the right size for a bottle of freshly tapped spring water and one or two apples. These come from the Vinschgau Valley and will satisfy your appetite in between.
1 p.m., a hut in the Schnalstal Valley
I don't want to name a specific hut, because you can enjoy great food everywhere here. Treat yourself to a classic dish such as Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancakes with raisins) or dumplings, or a hearty snack platter, if the hiking has made you particularly hungry today.
3:30 p.m., back at the Oberraindlhof
Time for coffee and cake! Just like in the old days, you can enjoy a cup of coffee and a piece of homemade cake in good company and at your leisure. Today there's Linzer, tomorrow Schworzplentn and the day after a chocolate nut. There's plenty of variety. Then it's time for a sauna infusion or a little nap. Enjoy it, won't you?
07.30 p.m.: In the cosy Oberraindlhof parlours
Dinner is served, and we are cooking up a storm. In the pots: a piece of South Tyrolean culture. A breath of fresh air from southern climes. Schnalser sheep and the best of vegetarian cuisine. Our maestros compose a multi-course symphony for all the senses, evening after evening. Ah, here comes your host Helmuth, recommending the perfect wine. Did you know that the Oberraindl Trio will be playing for you at the Tyrolean evening? Afterwards, come to the bar for a nightcap and we'll tell you more about it!
